Applying for an Exchange

General Information About Applications

Deadline February 26, 2007.
There are two parts to an application, one for the student to complete with help from his or her parents, and one for the liaison teacher to complete.

Limitations All applications are welcomed, but some students may not be successfully matched with a suitable exchange partner. Under most circumstances, schools have no more than two exchange matches per program per year to allow for maximum school participation in welcoming and supporting exchange partners to all parts of Alberta.

The Application Process

Application Forms Printable application forms are available here

Applications can also be obtained from your language teacher.

Format All applications should be completed either in type or in black ink to facilitate copying.

Photographs Applicants must include four original passport size photographs of the applicant, with the applicant's name printed on the reverse side. One photograph is to be attached firmly to each of the four sets of the application form. The first part of the application requests four additional photos: one showing the interior and one the exterior of the home; one of the applicant's family; and one showing an activity or element important to the applicant. Photographs should be colour copied or scanned to fit into the required format.

Copies Applicants submit the fully completed first part of the application form to the liaison teacher. The liaison teacher (committee and/or such persons designated by the school) then conducts an interview with the student and his/her parents in their home, using the second, "interview" part of the application form.

When the liaison teacher and the school principal endorse the application, they send the original and three copies of the complete application (both parts) to Alberta Education. The family and school should also retain copies of the forms for their files.
