>> Fees and Other Expenses

Tuition and Application Fees
Each school jurisdiction will have a different tuition rate and application fee. Contact the local school jurisdiction for details on tuition and application fees.

In general:

  • Tuition fees for one year range from $8,000 - $11,000 Canadian dollars.
  • Tuition fees for one semester range from $4,000 - $6,000 Canadian dollars.
  • Summer programs are available in some jurisdictions; tuition fees vary according to the level of intensity of the program.
  • Application fees range from $200 - $700 Canadian dollars.
  • Additional fees may be charged for books, transportation and extra-curricular activities.

Refund Policy
Refund and cancellation policies are different in every school jurisdiction. Check with the appropriate school jurisdiction about their refund and cancellation policies.

Generally, application fees are not refundable. Tuition fees are also non-refundable if a student has already started the semester. However, most school jurisdictions will refund tuition fees in the following cases:

  • if notice of cancellation is given within a reasonable timeframe;
  • if a student is denied a study permit (student visa);
  • if a student becomes a permanent resident; or
  • if a student is denied admission to the school.

Homestay and Living Expenses
Most school jurisdictions have a homestay coordinator to help find a responsible, enthusiastic and qualified homestay family for the students. Homestay families are carefully selected and their homes are inspected to ensure it is a good fit for the student. Fees for arranging homestay placements range between $200 - $800 Canadian dollars.

Monthly costs for a homestay range from $400 - $800 Canadian dollars per month. These costs are in addition to tuition and application fees. Living expenses for international students should be estimated at $200 per month.

Medical Insurance information
Medical insurance is mandatory for international students studying in Alberta. However, policies governing the type of coverage required and the companies from which insurance may be purchased vary amongst school jurisdictions. In addition, some school jurisdictions have built the cost of medical insurance into their international student fees. Please contact the international student office or representative at your local school jurisdiction before you purchase medical insurance.
