>> Why study in Alberta

1. High quality education and academic excellence. Young people come to Alberta for our high quality education system. The quality of Alberta's education system is demonstrated by the results our students achieve in international and national tests. Internationally, Alberta students score high; in 2000, Alberta students scored the highest marks in reading and were among the top three in science and mathematics on the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) tests. The results from testing in 2003 were equally high with Alberta students sharing the highest marks in reading, placing second in mathematics and fourth in both science and problem solving. In 2004, Alberta students scored number one in Canada's science portion of the School Achievement Indicators Program (SAIP)test. Results show that Alberta has the highest percentage of students in Canada achieving higher than expected standards of knowledge and skills in science.

2. Excellent programs for international students. Alberta schools have excellent programs for international students at affordable tuition rates. International students study the same internationally recognized curriculum as Alberta students and can expect instruction in mathematics, science, language arts and social studies. Alberta schools also offer expert instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) to support students as they develop their English language proficiency. Upon completion of Alberta's graduation requirements, international students may also obtain an Alberta High School Diploma.

3. Alberta - a great place to live. In addition to Alberta's exemplary schools, Alberta is an exciting place to live. Alberta is renowned both within and outside Canada for its natural beauty. It is home to modern cities, lakes, mountains and abundant wildlife. Wherever you study in Alberta you will not be far from national parks, stunning scenery and world-class recreational centers. Alberta's friendly people, thriving communities, and varied landscapes make Alberta one of the best places in the world to live.
