Song Writing Intensive

Song Writing Intensive

Elm Street School
Harmony in the Hat

Verse 1
We are Canada's sunniest city
We have the world's largest Tepee
An oasis in the prairie, we are rich in history
Legend tells us a story of how we came to be.
The Hat is a wonderful place to see

Verse 2
We have lots of important buildings
Like our old brick Elm Street school
The city hall and courthouse are both beautiful.
At the lovely Esplanade we see paintings and plays
Our TePee is the tallest, they say

Chorus:
Harmony, harmony in the Hat
School, home, community is where it's at.
People across the land
They come and see
We're living in the Hat in harmony.

Verse 3
The South Saskatchewan River runs through the city we love
The grass is always green
There are many birds flying above
The trails wind as we bike with our families
The Hat s a wonderful place you see.

Verse 4
The cows all stand proudly
With the farmers and their grain
But farmers still go fishing when it begins to rain
We need irrigation so the crops begin to grain
One day this song will get a lot of fame

Chorus

Verse 5
The past, present and future
We are known as Hatters
Kalan Porter, Terry Clarke, where everybody matters
Hard working people give hospitality
The Hat is a wonderful place you see.

Verse 6
Tigers and Rattlers,
They play sports everywhere
The tigers have sharp claws and the ratters have no hair
MacArthur and Russell can ace a goal a game
Fans dress in orange, will make ourselves a name.

Chorus

(Written by Grade 5 and 6 students at Elm Street School, Medicine Hat on October 12 and 13 with Mary Kieftenbeld and John Wort Hannam as part of the Alberta Education centennial project Song Writing Intensive.)
