Information for School District Superintendents:
Last September, Premier Klein announced that as part of the province's Centennial celebrations, the government of Alberta will be providing each student in Kindergarten to Grade 12 with a special commemorative medallion.
I am pleased to provide you more details on the medallion and ask for your support in making this initiative a success.
To ensure the success of this program, we require the assistance of school jurisdictions to distribute this memento to all students in the school system in 2005.
The medallion will be distributed to each jurisdiction in May.
Medallions for high schools will be shipped first in order to be available for as many graduation ceremonies as possible, and a second shipment will contain those for elementary and junior high students.
They will be shipped through the Learning Resources Centre in pre-boxed packages for each school.
The quantities will be based on your recent class size survey figures.
We will also be shipping a supply of medallions for you to distribute to each home schooled and outreach student in your jurisdiction in 2005, as well as for those new students enrolled in kindergarten in the fall (based on your current kindergarten numbers).
